THE DUMBING DOWN OF SARAH PALIN
THE DUMBING DOWN OF SARAH PALIN

Those of us who are not busy screaming at the supporters of the candidate they think is a sorry excuse for a national leader, have watched the Sarah Palin nomination in total bewilderment. First John McCain makes a brilliant gutsy choice for his running mate which catches just about everyone by surprise. Then she is treated to the worst candidate bashing by the media we have witnessed since Barry Goldwater was nominated. The media repeated as fact any kind of trash from partisan Democratic oriented internet sites without even checking to see if there was a shred of truth to these charges. We were beginning to wonder if the media had fired all their regular staff and replaced them with the staffs of the scandal magazines.

Then McCain campaign sequesters Palin and will not let the press anywhere near her. They tried a few interviews with people like Charlie Gibson who promptly treated her like she did not have a brain in her head. This had the effect of just rallying voters to her side because any rational observer could see the unbelievable treatment she was getting.

Having said all of that, it is not as if the media does not have some legitimate questions to ask her. In their efforts to protect her, the McCain campaign are slowly but surely convincing the voters that Palin cannot handle herself and therefore is not qualified to be a candidate for Vice-President. All an unbiased person has to do is watch some videos of Palin in her campaigns for Governor of Alaska to see that she can handle herself and does not need to be kept under wraps.

The McCain campaign is simply reinforcing the idea that Palin was not properly vetted and that John McCain knows he made a bad choice and is trying to control the damage. It is clear that McCain's choice turned what was going to be a losing campaign into a great chance to be a winning campaign. One has to wonder why they now seem determined to throw this huge advantage away. It is becoming increasingly clear that the McCain campaign simply does not trust Sarah Palin not to royally screw up the campaign. If that is their attitude, how in the world do they expect to sell the voters that Sarah Palin is prepared to become President should that become necessary?

The fact that she draws huge crowds when she campaigns means absolutely nothing because she is just preaching to the choir. If Palin cannot convince the undecided voters that she and John McCain are a better choice than Obama and Biden, then Obama will become President. It is as simple as that. Observers of the McCain campaign who know anything about political campaigns can't help wondering why the McCain campaign is determined to blow both their feet off and hand the election to their opponents.

It has reached the point where if Sarah Palin wants to really help John McCain to win the Presidency, she needs to revolt. She needs to come right out and tell the McCain folks that she is all through being manhandled by them and made to look like a total idiot. One can understand that she feels beholden to John McCain for choosing her, but she is not doing him any favors by letting his campaign advisors run roughshod over her. Will the real Sarah Palin please stand up and be her own self? You have demonstrated that you have a natural ability in politics. Surely you can recognize that this hiding from the press is a prescription for
total disaster. You know you can handle yourself with the media because you have been doing it for years. Don't let the suits from the McCain campaign convince you otherwise.

Todd Palin, the best thing you can do to help your wife is to come right out and tell her that either she is given a free rein to do her own thing or she needs to bow out. It is bad enough that she and your family were trashed by the media without adding insult to injury. The McCain suits are making her look like nothing more than a hick from the sticks who simply can't handle the job of being Vice-President. She did not get to be the Governor of Alaska with the approval rating she has by being the unprepared dumb bunny former beauty queen that she is being made out to be. With every passing day that idea is being reinforced not only by the media but by the McCain campaign handlers. With friends like that, you do not need any enemies.
